In order to work, we need coordination, a sequence of event to follow. Organisation has normally all needed in place to cope with daily events, but no organisation can address complex issues normally seen during a major event. Effective coordination amongst various players is critical to successful preparation and response, especially during unforcasted event, different location, new players.

Coordination will eliminate gaps and duplications of service; determine appropriate responsibilities and roles; establish framework for information sharing and most certainly help in the designing of needed policies, possibly joint planning and improve collaboration overall.

Someone in the organisation will be responsible to coordinate any work. He/she needs to liaise in order to ensure everyone work together.

*** Other than the normal coordination events, we should identify opportunities to collaborate periodically through meetings and productive activities. Some of them are:

  • Clarify roles and responsibilities for the preparation and response;
  • Include a communication system between all different levels; and
  • Identify Challenges and Problems: Lack of coordination will lead to misunderstanding and possibly conflicts.

*** Other coordination opportunities will present ways to maintain and progress
the “team” toward a successful, easier outcome. Some are:

  • Mandate diversity;
  • Resources available;
  • Trade secrets;
  • Processes; ect…

Coordination Pros / Advantages: +++ effectiveness, — cost, +++ speed up fixing process; Part of the framework for strategic decision making

No gaps, no duplication: Coordination give best roles and responsibilities sharing opportunity.
